Brewer‐Garrett was selected to provide an energy analysis and developed energy efficient solutions to improve the facility’s infrastructure. This included updates and improvements to the mechanical systems and the exterior lighting.
Opportunity
Much of the equipment including boilers, chillers, and air handling units, were outdated and performing at a low efficiency rates. Not only did BG need to develop appropriate solutions for each system, but also needed to expertly coordinated plans to allow the facility to continue use of their surgery units during construction.
Solution
BG provided new equipment for the boiler/steam plant and replaced the outdated chiller. A solution was developed to included the existing chiller equipment as a secondary machine to allow chilled water to be provided more effectively. New variable air volume control units were implemented to provide reliable air distribution.
Results
The extensive enhancements made to the facility improved the overall efficiency and contributed to a 20% reduction in energy usage without jeopardizing the facility operations. Overall, the facility will see $5.1 million in savings over 10 years.
